Why I should probably drink more, reason # 2

Conversation with my husband re: budgeting.

Husband: You know, you are not going to be able to make those trips to Starbucks anymore.

Me: And you won't be able to go to the deli for a sandwich every day.

Husband: Oh, that ends up saving us money.

Me: Wha?

Husband: Yeah, when you add it up, it costs less for me to get a sandwich than to make one at home.

Me: Let's see... $4.49 for a loaf of bread, multiplied by 18 slices is .26 cents a slice; a carton of sliced turkey is $4.79, let's say you use a quarter of the carton for a sandwich, that's a buck twenty. Throw in some condiments, let's call it $2.00 total. How is this less expensive than buying one at the deli for $5.00?

Husband: Using processed meat? That is costing me my health? No thank you. I'd rather not die.

I'm not making this shit up folks. This is verbatim. How do you argue with that kind of logic?
You drink more.

Wow. You are one lucky girl to be married to a man who is so concerned about staying healthy.

$4.49 for a loaf of bread??? Wow!

It's so hard to argue with male 'logic'... Yes, drink more. STARBUCKS, that is! ;)

I have a suggestion to help him save money and be healthier!!! How about he starts riding a bicycle instead of driving?

Think he'll go for it?

Roast a whole turkey breast and have him shave the meat to make his "un-processed" sandwiches ;)

I would recommend buying a professional meat slicer. If you spread the cost ($400?) over 10 years of making sandwiches, it's a definite money saver!

Look to me for cost savings tips like this.

I like Julia's idea. But if he insists on deli sandwiches tell him he better be only drinking tap water and free coffee from the pot at work all day.

Cut him some slack. It's "crunch time at work" right?

Even if he bought Deli meat freshly shaved wouldn't it be cheaper? Maybe you could tell him to make a salad at home that would be healthier and cheaper!!!

he's probably adding in his cost of labor - if he is giving up working time to make the sandwich, and he makes more than $18/hr (assuming 10 min. to create sandwich), then he would break even by paying the extra $3 for the store bought sandwich.

(sorry devil's advocate)

cheers. That's it. Just cheers.

Too funny. So isn't he worried about your calicum intake. You wouldn't be able to make lattes at home very easily and you don't want to get osteoporosis.

Yes, but if you don't go to Starbucks, the you kill people at work and then you have no work, cause you are in jail and then he'd be really poor.

Have you tried this logic on him?
You drink more ... wine, at X dollars a bottle (notice how I didn't shame myself by admitting exactly how little I am prepared to spend on wine).
Compare this with a visit to Starbucks.
Your math carries the day.
You win!

haha, wow. I'd start buying wine by the cases.

If he'd rather not die, he better not try to screw you out of Starbucks.
