It pays to be organized

For me, it would have paid five hours of time spent searching through eight bags of papers, pictures, magazines and miscellaneous crap, for two check registers that we needed for our taxes. Bags that had been sitting in a closet, waiting for the day that I'd have time to go through these things, toss and file. Today was not the day that I had time to do this.

Going though these bags of crap yielded me:
  • 5 bags of garbage
  • 4 Nordstrom gift cards
  • 1 Gymboree gift card
  • 1 Peet's Coffee card
  • $40 in cash
  • 5 books of stamps
  • Certificate for free portrait sitting, expiring in May
  • Certificate for one hour golf lesson, expires in April
  • Certificate for swim lessons, already expired
  • 2 books of Ferry Tickets
  • 3 other important documents for our taxes
  • One of the two missing check registers
  • One and a half more hours of time piecing together who we wrote checks contained in missing check register to, based on dates and amounts alone

So when they say it pays to be organized, they are not kidding.

I am so with you on this. I am up to 4 file boxes of stuff waiting to be filed and it just keeps accumulating.

But it does make me feel better to know I am not the only one...

Holy crap - that's awesome. Now book some time for yourself and go ride a ferry, get some coffee, buy some kids clothes, buy yourself a ton of clothes at Nordstrom, get your photo taken, and mail some packages. haha! I think you've motivated me to organize my disaster of a desk!

Woo hoo! It's like you've won the lottery!

Holy crap. Now I know why your house always "looks" organized. You keep all your crap in bags hidden in a closet.

:-)

Oh yeah... can I borrow a stamp?

I cleaned out probably three times the amount of your stuff this weekend for my mom's upcoming move into my home and came up with nothing close to what you listed. Certainly no hidden gift cards or cash!!

I have bags like this, but I am pretty sure I will not find any cash. So there's a bright side - spend it somewhere fun!

Damn - Christy took my comment. When your hubby gets back go out and treat yourself. (My crap is all over the kitchen)

Wow you hit the jackpot! Now I'm wondering what I'd find if I did some organizing?

Oh gosh! I have to look through my bag. My bag is HUGE and I wonder what I could find, lol.

I heard the IRS is accepting Ferry tickets in lieu of 1099s this year!

Sounds like hard work, but rewarding!

Yikes. It sucks when you forget about things and then they expire. At least you have a ton of stamps to tide you over for awhile! :)
