The apples don't fall far from the tree

Seesa all dressed up in her 4-H uniform, showing off her bunny at Farm Day.

Milly relaxing on (very tolerant) Baker, the chocolate lab we got to dog-sit this weekend.

Yes, that me. At eighteen years old, dressed in my 4-H uniform, showing my lamb. No, I'm not embarrassed. I've mentioned before that I was am a total geek...

I love that my girls love animals as much as I do.

I think that's awesome. I haven't heard of 4H in forever. I had friends that did it growing up.

That's so cool that she's following in your footsteps. I didn't even know that 4H was still around. I was a girl scout for longer than I usually like to admit (well into high school) but I had a great time doing it.

Oh that is so cute - all the photos! I don't think we had 4-H where I grew up, but I think it's such a neat organization. Love your hair in that picture - my hair was always so flat when I was that age, and I always wanted those waves!

Looks like you had fun dog-sitting - that Baker looks like such a cutie pie.

Just spent the last 10-15 minutes catching up on all the posts I've missed. GOOOOOD STUFF!!! We just came home from Jamaica.

1)My mom makes me absolutely batshit crazy when I'm in a hurry. It's ALMOST like she's sabotaging, but I can't quite nail her for it.
2)The language that sometimes comes out of my kids' mouths would make a sailor blush. Fuck.
3)The book? Awesome.
4) Paying it forward would require blogging. Which I can't seem to do these days. Maybe I'll try it again sometime soon.
5) Where do you get all those gift certificates? I thought teachers
had more than the rest of the world, but I stand corrected. Also...you're doing your taxes before 4/14, so that counts for something!
6) You had me with the hair.
xoxo - missed you!

Ok, I have to ask you this....cause you might not laugh as you answer. Ok, maybe you will, but not to my face right?

Ok, never mind. Laugh away...what exactly is 4-H? I grew up in LA, if that helps you understand how weird I am. I was 11 before I ever saw a real..cow.

The official 4-H pledge-

I pledge my HEAD to clearer thinking,
my HEART to greater loyalty,
my HANDS to larger service,
my HEALTH to better living for
my club, my community, my country and my world.

Not a bad motto for a bunch of geeks with projects ranging from showing different animals at the county fair, sewing or other home care projects, health and safety, photography, community service (we used to Christmas carol in convalescent hospitals, pick-up trash and other odd jobs). Pretty much you can make a project out of any past-time or hobby, keep diligent records (financial and related activities) and submit it at the end of the year for a record book competition. There are monthly meetings with your club where club members run the meetings with Parliamentary procedures, summer camps to attend and other fun stuff/activities to help kids learn some responsibility at an early age. I started when I was 9 and finished up my last year of high school.

You can see why Kari and I bonded so well at our first day of college when we figured out we were former 4-Hers.

From a fellow geek........Thanks for the flash back of memories today:)

That is awesome! I love your hats. What a great thing to pass on to your daughter, seriously, I wish I had any desire to care for animals because I would love to give my kids this experience.
