Thankful Thursday - cupcakes, cookies and corporate takeovers

Thank you Christie of A Lil' Welsh Rarebit, for the adorable "Your blog is deer to me as cupcakes" award. It means just what it says, and who doesn't love cupcakes. And deer. And of course fun awards!

Thank you to Mel over at Colorful Metaphors, for the SO yummy homemade cookies I won at her blog warming party. She even shares the delicious recipe over on her blog - check it out!

Thank you to my firm for finally announcing the fate of our company. That's right, the wait is over. Another financial firm has purchased the financial firm that I work for. This will likely result in a sizable layoff after the end of the year. And how is it that this is something to be thankful for??? After spending the better part of the past two years engrossed in the day to day details of the economic downturn, having survived one round of layoffs earlier this year only to learn shortly afterwards that my firm was up for sale, then working in a fog of ambiguity and stress for the past few months while we all waited to see what was going to happen - now we finally know!!! Now we can move forward! I don't know what will happen to my job, but I strongly believe that when one door closes, several more open. I'm ready to walk forward through the next door in my life, whatever happens.

I will bestow the "Your blog is deer to me as cupcakes" award to you, if you leave me a comment telling me about the best bad news you've ever gotten.

I'd have to say the "best" bad news I've ever gotten was the positive pregnancy test at 15. Not in the plans, but so thankful that I have my now 14yo son to show for that "bad news".

I agree with Kay...having only dated K for a year I had no plans of spending the rest of my life with him and was devastated when I saw the positive indicator on the pregnancy stick. Now I love my son more than life itself!
Gotta also say that the day K came home and said, "I'm unhappy and I'm leaving" was the worst day of my life and took a couple of yrs to get over but now I'm so glad that my life, however hard it can get, is unfolding as it is...
There is one other piece of bad news that I can't share online but it's a good one and I'll tell you to you in person...one of these days!

I agree....not knowing is worse than knowing crap news. I hope your job is secure, but either way I am sure you will not only survive, but thrive!

My best bad news was "you're having twins!" Terrible at first, but so fun six years later.

Hmmmnnn...
It's weird. I think I have to say that all the pieces of bad news I've received have made me better, stronger, closer to my family. Cumulatively, all those horrid, unthinkable bits of news have taught me that I can deal with anything. For that, I am so strangely grateful.
I told you. Weird.

For me that would be learning that my oldest has significant delays. Since he was my first - I didn't have much to compare to, and he was really young so it was easy to chalk up to just being "a late talker". So while the news wasn't good - at least it put us on the path of early intervention. And hopefully that will eventually get him to a point where he really is just like the other kids in his ability to learn and socialize.

The best bad news I ever received was from my boss when he told me he was letting everyone go. I wanted to stay home with Bunny but I wasn't quite ready to take the leap. The decision was made for me and I couldn't be happier.

I like your attitude Kari. I feel the same lately at work. I try to feel the same about everything.

Sometimes just knowing there is a plan to move forward under is a huge relief. I'm glad you are feeling calm and steady!

The not knowing is very stressful and good luck with the restructuring.

The best bad news: Goodness, I have a few,Hmm,

My husband's first boss originally told him that they would give him an advance to help with a down payment for a house. When we found the house and he went to him, the boss informed my husband that he changed his mind. My husband then moved us back to the 'city' and a year later took the job with the Firm and he is now a Partner.

My now husband and I had just moved in together and his ex fell off the face of the earth which meant that my now stepdaughter came to live with us full time. It was incredibly scary to me as we went from every other weekend parents to full time all the time parents. It was a lot of stress on our relationship, but I wouldn't change a thing. She is such a joy to me in my life and I love her so much. It turns out that I have a knack for motherhood!

Glad you liked them! I was a little concerned about them and their long trip.

As for my best bad news? Ask me tomorrow. :)

Glad that the other shoe is dropped for you. Hang in there.
